At House Network, we know that you’ll want to make sure you get the best possible valuation for your home and make sure it’s backed up by relevant and accurate information. It’s a really good idea to be clued up about the house selling prices for properties in your area. Looking at similar properties helps determine a price for the house you’re looking to sell.
We’ve compiled a list of the top 5 most reliable places online where you can check the asking prices for properties around where you live, as well as what houses have sold for.
There are also a lot of handy links to pages on these sites to ensure you are as informed as possible about valuations. If you’re selling your home and want to get some backup, this is a great place to start.
The Land Registry is a government site which provides open data about property trends from each area of the country as well as finding out the prices for various different property types including detached, semi-detached, terraced houses or flats and maisonettes. You can search for the following data on the Land Registry site:
This site provides links for Land and Property services for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This includes mapping services, valuations and ratings, as well as links to statistical reports on annual price increases according to House Price Index (HPI).
Here, you’ll be able to find and download official reports and in-depth statistical information from the Land Registry.
We list properties on Rightmove, and with 800,000 properties listed on their site, you’ll be sure to find houses in your area to help you check out their asking prices and property price history.
If you’re curious about house prices anywhere in the country, you can use the tool on the Rightmove blog to search the actual sale value of properties sold in the UK.
By simply typing in the postcode of the area you choose, you can find out the prices around the house you’re looking to sell or to find data on somewhere you’d love to move to.
As well as the postcode price tool, Rightmove give you a whole host of information like the following:
HIPs (Home Information Packs)

Property TrackerThis includes information including a detailed overview of the housing market in the current period, average prices, as well as national and regional trends.
We also list homes for sale on the property site Zoopla, so it’s a great place to find out the going rate for property where you’re selling, as well as getting estimated prices and averages by area.
A great thing about the Zoopla site for those researching property price history is the ‘listing history’ feature on the Property Archive section of the website. This allows you as a seller to access clear and accurate house price information for previously sold properties.
This website is full of helpful advice on all aspects of property ownership. On the homepage, you can find a Local Property Info tool, as well as a Sold House Prices tool whereby you search with a postcode and get results based on information from the Land Registry.
Tools like these are really useful for giving you an informed and accurate indication of how much your house deserves to be valued at based on the current state of the market, property price history and trends for certain areas of the country.
At House Network, we have a free valuation tool on our site that you can use to get an accurate estimate of your home’s value so you can make an informed decision on your asking price. Check it out here.
