Heritage and Culture
Memorably depicted in Ricky Gervais’ internationally acclaimed comedy series, Slough is often perceived as being nothing more than a collection of offices. In some ways, Gervais had a point; the head offices of LEGO, Mars, Blackberry, O2, Burger King and McAfee are situated here to name a few, and the Mars Bar was actually invented in Slough, proving that in some offices at least, great and important things are achieved. One achievement of Slough’s many offices is to provide its incredibly ethically diverse population with a fantastic job market; unemployment in the town is just a third of the UK average. With ninety-six listed buildings to its name, there is a lot more to Slough, and a £400 million redevelopment plan to turn the town centre into a hub for creative industries has residents excited about its future.
