Why we love Basildon

Lovable location

Basildon, created as a new town in 1948, to accommodate the London population overspill after World War II, is 32 miles east of Central London, 10 miles west of Southend-on-Sea, and 11 miles south of the city of Chelmsford. Following the construction of this new town, Basildon became an important industrial base, with Costa Coffee being the most recent company to take up residence, opening their roastery in 2017.

Glorious green space

Basildon residents and visitors enjoy access to many high street shops in a number of shopping areas within the town centre. The town is also lucky to have a well-equipped Leisure Park, several leisure centres, a theatre and wakeboarding complex, as well as large amounts of green spaces and parkland.

Local links and beyond

The town offers good links for commuters travelling into the City of London, with a 36–58-minute journey from the three Basildon stations to London Fenchurch Street. Basildon also has access to the City via road, on the A127 and A13. Both are important commuter trunk roads, which allow easy access to the M25 and the motorway network. A local bus service connects Basildon to other nearby towns.
